when is it time to redecorate?Well, as far as I’m concerned anytime is a good time whenever you need a change. Typically though re-decorating about every 7 years is going to keep your home looking stylish. The word “re-decorate” isn’t nearly as intimidating as the related but much scarier word “renovate”. Re-decorating can be as simple as changing the paint colour and moving the furniture around. Whatever decorating project you decide to tackle go into it with a plan. Set a budget, plan the room from start to finish and then implement it. Maybe you are quite happy with your home or your husband says “there’s nothing wrong with it”, how do you really know when it is time? I hope I don’t offend anyone but here it is…
If while looking at photos of the kids playing in the living room when they were young you notice that nothing much has changed… except those kids have kids of their own… it’s time!
If you can feel the springs on your behind when you sit on the sofa, it is probably time for a new sofa and while you are at it paint and replace the window coverings…it’s time!
If the guest bedroom has orange shag carpet and nothing has changed since the 70’s…you are in luck keep the shag, have it professionally cleaned and paint the walls a funky complementary colour, and add some new bedding in a colourful geometric pattern. Voila - trendy… it’s time!
I’m sorry if your kitchen wallpaper/border is moo-ing or is covered in cute hearts and/or ducks…it is time
If your bathroom toilet is sporting a toupé you know, those furry tank and seat covers with the matching floor mat that fits around the toilet… it’s time (guys hate those anyway, they have difficulty navigating around those, if you know what I mean!)
If you moved into a previously owned, but new to you home 5 years ago and although the décor didn’t match anything you own you decided to hold off on redecorating…it’s time!
If your 14 year old son’s bedroom has a teddy bear border underneath the concert posters…for goodness sake, let him paint… it’s time!
If you’ve never really liked the paint colour in the living room and the carpet is plain worn out, what are you waiting for? ... it’s time!
If you don’t know where to start or how to make your vision a reality…it’s time to hire some help! |
